Achieve peace of mind with frequent and automatic validation of backup integrity, immediately after completion.
Datto's patented Screenshot Backup Verification, and new Advanced Screenshot Verification, ensure business has the most comprehensive backup monitoring available. Datto validates more Windows and Linux backups, with greater frequency, from both virtual (agent and agent-less) and physical systems, than any other backup / DRaaS solution. Advanced Screenshot Verification adds the easiest application-level backup verification today.
Following backups, Datto BDR solutions virtualise and test-boot protected servers, detecting any backup concerns using a combination of screen recognition and patented CPU register algorithms. This allows large quantities of protected servers, even across a fleet of Datto appliances, to have backup data integrity validated at a scale traditional solutions could never match.
Nobody enjoys spending time to validate backups. But avoiding this task can lead to classifying unusable backups with data integrity issues as valid. Problems are only discovered when it is too late - when that backup data is needed for recovery. Datto's Screenshot Backup Verification allows you to monitor your backups, verify that restores can be performed, and resolve any issues before they develop into bigger problems.
Following a backup, Datto BDR appliances can automatically take image backups (all virtual and physical backup clients are stored as images), virtualise them, and then test boot, separate from the production server. Datto designed a proprietary algorithm to check if a machine is booted and to allow you to script what is a successful test. In the event that the test boot fails, details are provided explaining what went wrong to the administrator. Screenshot Backup Verification is completely automated, has no impact on performance and protected systems are completely unaware of the monitoring process.
Screenshot Backup Verification is specifically designed to make Datto the best choice for MSPs. It is a native feature of SIRIS and ALTO, and available at no additional cost or configuration.
Discover how a proper BCDR not only offers peace of mind for the end user, but for the MSP as well:
"With an all-in-one solution, bolstered by technology like Screenshot Backup Verification, Addictive Technologies takes the guessing game out of BCDR. Now that we have implemented Datto, we know that the restores are happening and being tested daily by the Screenshot technology... Naturally, we all sleep a lot better now,"

How often do you currently test the recoverability of your backups? Why not go from testing weekly, monthly or even yearly, to testing every hour automatically? Ensure your data will be there when you need it, and be confident Datto will help you get there.
Screenshot Backup Verification relies on Instant Virtualisation to quickly virtualise and test boot backups of protected servers. Datto's Inverse Chain eliminates managing traditional backup chains that slow down a recovery with reconstruction. In turn, this liberates the solution to have more frequent backups - as frequently as every 5 minutes. But without an automated method to verify backups, more backups may mean more invalid backups, and this is why Datto's Screenshot Backup Verification tech is so important.
Screenshot Backup Verification provides an intuitive user interface that is part of Datto's remote management portal for MSPs. When the verification process is complete, test results appear in the portal along with everything you need to troubleshoot issues. The system also triggers an email alert, so you can quickly check pass/fail status without logging into the portal. The testing frequency of backups is configurable, along with the frequency of alerts, to meet your specific needs.
Below is an illustration of what remote management looks like in the portal. Easily view when protected machines were last backed up to the Datto device, or the time that backups were last synchronised with the Datto Cloud. Verify whether the last local backup was successful (green checkmark) or failed (red X). And if any backups fail, Inverse Chain Technology means that not only is every backup fully constructed, but any backup can be deleted.
Datto was the first to release Screenshot Backup Verification in 2011 in response to the needs of MSPs. Today, Datto has over 50,000 systems in production, backing up hundreds of thousands of machines every day, physical and virtual, of multiple OS types, and on multiple hypervisors.
In 2016, Datto introduced Advanced Screenshot Verification, which builds on this success. Advanced Screenshot Verification runs a PowerShell or bash script on the VM to verify that applications, such as MySQL, SQL Server and Exchange, are configured properly and can be started successfully. This enables Datto Partners to deliver an even higher level of disaster readiness to their clients. This gives partners peace of mind because they know they are able to meet agreed upon BDR service agreements. And in turn, it builds trust and fosters the MSP/client relationship.

Backing up data is a critical part of any business continuity plan. However, checking the validity of these backups is just as important. In this episode, Kevin Williams sits down with Ian McChord, VP of Product Management and William Speirs, Senior Director of Datto Labs, to discuss one of our new SIRIS 3 features, Advanced Screenshot Verification.
