Almost immediately after putting the first Datto business continuity and recovery device onto one of the Craig Group ships, there was a server failure one week into a 28-day voyage. The vessel was many miles off the coast of Africa and completely inaccessible to shore personnel. Previously, this server issue would have been hard to manage and could have caused the ship to go hours or even days without vital IT systems. However, because of a Datto SIRIS device and Datto’s secure cloud, the Craig Group could get the ships systems back up and running rapidly and were then able to operate the ship off a virtual server for three weeks. This meant that the ship not only maintained her position and her employment, but avoided the need for downtime and steaming many miles to make an expensive and unscheduled port of call.
