World Backup Day: Great Day for a DR Test

When’s the last time you performed a DR (disaster recovery) test? Even the best automated backup solutions require a test. And let’s face it, better to discover any glitches before it becomes business-critical. And before you have an unhappy customer on the phone. Regardless the size of your customer’s business, their data is critical to its operation and livelihood. Put another way, is the small amount of time it takes to plan and execute a DR test worth the potential loss of data—or even downtime? That’s what I thought. Furthermore, your customers will love the fact that you’re so thorough. And if you’ve been putting it off because it won’t happen to you and your customers? Think again. While your cost of downtime may not hit $25 million, as it did with Apple’s recent outage, it will be a very real impact to your customer. Proper planning paid off for Junior Achievement of New York. Their MSP team did all the right planning, and still the unexpected happened (multiple servers crashed!). However, because they were prepared, the disruption was short lived and there was no data loss. Take the time to do a DR test. Here’s a checklist if you need help getting started. World Backup Day, which falls on March 31 this year, is a great reminder to perform a DR test. Think of it the same way you check your smoke detector batteries when you change your clock for daylight savings time. Even if you can’t perform the actual test on March 31, get the process started. Your customers will thank you for it. The post World Backup Day: Great Day for a DR Test appeared first on Datto.
