How Datto Celebrates International Women's Day

By: Rachel Powers

Annually on March 8th, the world celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women on a day known as International Women’s Day (IWD). This day is focused on equality for everyone. It is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy, and action, and has been celebrated across the world for over a century. It is a day to embrace and celebrate the ground-breaking actions of the past and present which have driven improvements and changes in equality in an inspirational and effective way.

At Datto, we have a strong community of women and men in support of women in technology and efforts to encourage more women to our industry. There is an active Slack channel that connects employees across the globe where people can share thought-provoking articles, let each other know about conferences and events in their area, and celebrate the accomplishments and promotions of the talented women at the company. Taylor Cotter, Strategic Initiatives Manager based in Rochester, NY, has started a “Wednesday Words of Wisdom” each week where she posts an inspirational quote by a female leader or from allies who are speaking to empowerment and equality. “I have been amazed and inspired by Datto’s unique and inclusive culture. Every day, we have the opportunity to empower others and cultivate a strong community. The “Wednesday Words of Wisdom” quote is a small reminder each week that we’re all in this together, and we all have the chance to make a difference.”

Datto Women in Tech (Datto WIT) are very busy preparing for some exciting events to honor IWD. In Boston, the office will be hosting a Speed Coaching event where employees can come grab lunch with their local office leaders and get their advice on relevant business topics. In the UK, the WIT team is meeting in the Reading office for an Afternoon Tea fundraiser in collaboration with the Katie Piper Foundation with a discussion around overcoming adversity. Down under in Sydney, the group has decided to celebrate with an empowering self-defense workshop open to all, in addition to spreading recognition and praise to the women in the office. Alex Pusenjak, Human Resources Business Partner in Sydney says, “we are extremely proud of our diversity and inclusion in APAC and look forward to celebrating and recognizing the amazing achievements during International Women’s Week.”

Collectively as a company we are celebrating this year’s IWD theme, #EachforEqual, in support of making change happen to create a gender-equal world. This is not an event just for women to participate in but is for the entire population of Datto and we are excited to stand together as a company by wearing purple, the official color of IWD, in support of this mission. We hope you will too!
