Datto Rochester Holds Shadow Day For Local Students

By: Chris Brunau

“Work can be fun!” While this is a fact everyone at Datto already knows, we were happy to recently share this with a group of students visiting our Rochester office.

Datto worked with PTech, an academics and career program for students. Datto employees meet with the students for mentoring sessions every month, but recently brought students on site to shadow Datto employees to give them an idea of what goes on behind the scenes. The students were given a quick tour, watched a video about Datto, and they sat with tech support experts and software engineers to get a hands-on experience.

“The engineers did a fantastic job engaging the students, quizzing them, and keeping them interested,” said Michelle. “The kids were so excited to be here. They were wide-eyed and adorable,” she added.

There was no shortage of enthusiasm among Datto employees.  According to Heather, 40 Datto employees who volunteered and only seven children. Michelle and Heather agreed it was great to see the kids and employees interact, and have so many employees clamoring to volunteer.

The students were all asking when they could come back, so it’s safe to say that Michelle, Heather, and the rest of the Rochester team did an amazing job. They’ll get their chance for sure, Datto is hosting another shadow day in May.

“It’s great to give back to the community, especially getting kids involved in STEM,” said Michelle.
