Why SMBs Should Prioritize Cyber Resilience

By Andrew Burton

Today, most small and medium businesses (SMBs) probably understand why IT security is critical, but may not understand the concept of cyber resilience and why it matters. However, SMBs can be disproportionately impacted by revenue loss, simply because they lack the extensive resources of larger businesses. So, developing a cyber resilience strategy should be considered essential.

Cyber resilience is a measure of business strength in preparing for, operating through, and recovering from the eventuality of a cyber attack. Cyber resilience relies on the successful ability to identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover quickly from any cyber event and combines cybersecurity, business continuity, and incident response.

Components of a cyber resilience strategy include, but is not limited to, cybersecurity, monitoring, and business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) technology. However, a successful cyber resilience strategy requires a holistic approach that includes people and process, as well. It is an ongoing practice, not a one-time effort.

Assisting SMBs in their cyber resilience efforts presents a major opportunity for MSPs. As your clients’ trusted technology advisor, you are in a unique position to help them become more resilient to cyber threats. This might mean educating employees on ways to avoid attacks, assisting in risk assessments, or introducing new technologies that protect against attacks or mitigate the impact of business downtime.

MSP Tech Day: Cyber Resilience

On March 18, we are hosting a virtual event for MSPs dedicated to cyber resilience and how to protect your clients in an increasingly complex threat landscape.

You’ll get actionable information on how to elevate your security posture from technical demos, executive keynotes, guest speakers, and a Q&A session. All of this is provided via an interactive virtual platform that allows you to network with Datto leadership and your MSP peers!
