The Top 3 Ransomware Myths
Seeing as the malware threat is certainly here to stay, wouldn’t it be in your best interest to know everything about ransomware?
Well, part of that learning involves separating fact from fiction. In a recent article by ITPortal, they highlighted three common myths around ransomware. Let’s check them out:
Backup is all you need: While having a backup and disaster recovery system is an absolute essential, and will help protect you against ransomware, it’s important to understand how to avoid ransomware and prevent cybercriminals from entering your system. Cybersecurity training and up-to-date antivirus software are also essential.
SMBs aren’t attractive targets: Hackers aren’t only going after the heavyweights, they’re spreading the ransomware love to businesses of all shapes and sizes. If you have valuable data, you’re the perfect target. Research suggests the average ransom demand is £525.
A firewall alone is enough to protect you: Similar to the first myth, it takes more than a single line of defence to protect against ransomware. Due to the various routes of infection, it’s important to couple a firewall with antivirus software and a backup and disaster recovery solution.
