Office Workers Unaware Of Ransomware
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of ransomware by now. However, according to a recent survey by Avecto, 60 percent of US office workers are unaware of ransomware. The survey of more than 1,000 workers is designed to determine cybersecurity awareness. Lucky for them, October is National Cybersecurity Month (good timing).
Datto’s State of the Channel Ransomware Report, there is a major disconnect between IT service providers and SMBs when it comes to the looming threat of ransomware. 88 percent of IT professionals are “highly concerned” about the ransomware threat. However, only 34 percent of small business owners said the same.
To make matters worse, a lack of employee training further compounds this issue. In our survey, we found the leading cause of a ransomware infection is spam or phishing emails followed by lack of employee training. If you mix those two together, you get a pretty lethal concoction for small businesses. Therefore, education is a great place to start to combat ransomware.
As we mentioned above, October is cybersecurity awareness month. This is a great opportunity to learn everything you ever wanted to know about cybersecurity and ransomware.
