New Form of Ransomware Targeting SaaS Data

By Chris Brunau

A new form of ransomware has managed to avoid detection by built-in security in Google Drive and Microsoft Office 365.

According to researchers, Shurl0ckr follows the ransomware-as-a-service model, which allows people with little technical skill to conduct ransomware attacks. After a payload that encrypts files on disk is generated and distributed, users pay a percentage of the ransom to the malware’s author. In addition, Shurl0ckr allows hackers to customize ransom demands and encryption capabilities.
