Meet Client Needs With Flexible SaaS Protection Retention

Meet Client Needs With Flexible SaaS Protection Retention

By Andrew Burton

In addition to improved pricing, invoicing, provisioning, and reporting, SaaS Protection also makes user data management easier with two retention options—Infinite Cloud Retention and Time Based Retention. You get flexibility and control over retention time with correlating price points to meet the needs of individual clients.

Infinite Cloud Retention (ICR) is particularly beneficial for clients subject to compliance requirements that specify they must retain data for an extended period, but it can benefit any client. ICR enables MSPs to easily decommission clients’ inactive SaaS accounts while keeping the data associated with them—at a fraction of the cost of maintaining SaaS licenses.

If ICR is not right for your clients needs, we also offer Time Based Retention (TBR). TBR allows you to store an unlimited amount of client SaaS data for a rolling twelve-month period. TBR gives you a lower-cost solution for clients without long-term retention requirements.

Why Clients Need SaaS Backup

One in three users experience data loss in cloud applications like Microsoft 365 and Google G Suite. And yet, some organizations still don’t understand that SaaS data is as vulnerable to data loss as on-premises data. According to a recent study by Gartner:

  • 7% of data loss is caused by malicious deletions
  • 13% of data loss is caused by viruses and hackers
  • 47% of data loss is caused by end-user deletions

SaaS applications offer some native data protection capabilities, but they do not offer complete protection against data deletion, malware, and hackers. That’s why Microsoft, for example, recommends third-party backup in its Services Agreement. This is often referred to as a “shared responsibility model” for data protection.

In this model, the SaaS provider is responsible for availability of hardware, applications and infrastructure, while the user is responsible for protecting the data they create using those applications.

This is why many Datto Partners simply bundle SaaS Protection with their Microsoft or G Suite services. In other words, SaaS backup isn’t a separate line item to negotiate—it’s a requirement. This approach reduces risk for both you and your clients and increases profitability.

Build Margin On SaaS Protection Services

Our new per-license pricing model allows you to redeploy licenses across end clients, ensuring you’ll never pay for inactive licenses. The SaaS Protection page in the Partner Portal now offers an aggregated view across all licenses, making it fast and easy to determine the number of licenses in use, and redeploy licenses wherever needed.

New volume-based discounts, based on total licenses sold across all of your customers, make it easier than ever to build margin on SaaS Protection services. Flexible subscription options (month-to-month vs. long term) let you select the best fit for your clients’ needs and access additional discounts on longer-term commitments. Invoicing has been simplified as well, making billing easier for you and invoices easier for clients to understand.

We understand the importance of efficiency for MSPs to deliver profitable services. To learn more about how Datto SaaS Protection can enhance your Microsoft 365 or Google G Suite services while streamlining operations and building margins, register for our upcoming webinar.
