File Sync And Share: A New Hope In Collaboration And Productivity

By Chris Brunau

Not so long ago, in a galaxy not so far away, flash drives were the tool of choice for storing and sharing files in a mobile and easy format.

However, according to Norton, because they are so small, cheap and can store so much data (once a selling point) flash drives present a security threat. The more common they become, the greater chance they’ll get lost or stolen or used to spread malicious programs.

Luckily, there’s a new hope when it comes to sharing files securely—and no it’s not the memory systems of an R2 unit. File sync & share platforms increase productivity through improved collaboration and communication. However, you must have the right tool for the job. Relying on consumer-grade FSS for business isn’t as risky as, say, making the the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, but it’s not the safest move either. With a FSS platform like Datto Drive, you can have an enterprise-grade product at a fraction of the price.

To promote Datto Drive, we are offering a free terabyte of cloud FSS storage for one year to the first million companies that sign up. (Yeah, that’s an exabyte, you scruffy looking nerf herder.) After a year, companies will pay just $10 a month for a TB for unlimited users.

As we discussed last year on Star Wars Day, and in a blog for Force Friday, we can learn a lot from Star Wars when it comes to the BCDR world.

The Tarkin Blunder taught us about disaster planning; you must build a disaster response team, self-assess your vulnerabilities, and be prepared for threats.

In A New Hope, we discussed how the rebels would have benefitted from having another copy of the stolen Death Star plans, instead of relying on R2-D2 to evade the Empire and successfully deliver the file to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Basically, we’ll use any opportunity to talk about Star Wars here at Datto.
