According to Chris Wooldridge, Datto Elevated Support Manager, DR testing is about more than just verifying whether you can spin up a virtual server in the cloud. “Testing also allows partners to create a sort of portfolio of information about devices and protected workloads,” he said. “Having those details prepared ahead of time allows Datto Tech Support to say ‘OK we can do A, B, and C, to resolve an issue quickly.”
This is particularly important for larger clients with in-house IT teams. In some cases, this might mean more than just technical documentation. “For example, a partner might need to connect Datto support with an in-house systems administrator,” said Wooldridge. “DR testing is a good opportunity to work these types of things out, so you aren’t scrambling during a real DR event.”
