Recently, Datto surveyed nearly 1,200 MSPs about their day-to-day lives, both business and personal. The result: a wealth of statistics, covering everything from education and income to media consumption and go-to business resources. Today, we've launched Datto's 2017 State of the MSP Report, which provides a unique profile of IT service professionals today. Below are a few of my favorite graphics from this report.
Do MSPs Prefer Star Wars or Star Trek?
As you'll see in the graphic above, the channel has spoken! For the majority of MSPs, the force is very much with Star Wars (over Star Trek - sorry Trekkies). Other fan favorites: Firefly, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, and Guardians of the Galaxy, to name a few. We also learned that Star Wars MSPs are more challenged by marketing and sales efforts than Star Trek MSPs. Meanwhile, Star Trek fans are more challenged by pricing and bundling services.
MSP Digital News Consumption
MSPs consume a variety of different news publications, with MSPMentor, CNN and CNet being the most popular. Of all the websites mentioned by MSPs, nothing came up as often as Reddit. Reddit serves as an MSP’s one-stop shop for networking as well as staying abreast of industry and tech news.
MSPs and the Daily Commute
The majority of MSPs experience a short commute (30 minutes or less) and rely on their own vehicles to get them to and from the office. I guess this is one of the benefits of managed services (i.e. remote monitoring).
